Release notes
0.2.1
The first version anyone can download. 0.2.0 stayed on my own Mac. Cedar needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later and runs on Apple silicon and Intel.
Browsing
Folder sizes show in the list. Cedar reads them in parallel, and the whole Applications folder takes about two seconds on my Mac. GIFs play in the list, and you can step through them one frame at a time. Thumbnail size runs from 32 to 512 points.
Cmd-\ opens a second pane beside the first, and F5 and F6 copy or move across. Cmd-X cuts files, which Finder won’t do. When two folders share a name you can merge them. Batch rename previews the new names before it touches anything. Cmd-P opens Quick Open, for folders and commands.
Servers and sync
Add SFTP servers and S3 buckets (Amazon, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze) and drag files in and out. Folder sync copies what’s new or changed between two folders, one way or both.
The viewer
Video plays MKV, AVI, WMV, WebM and FLV with their subtitles, at up to 3x speed, and in a picture-in-picture window. Music shows its cover art with sound bars around it. Zip, rar, 7z and tar archives open like folders, and you can extract the lot or pick files out. 3D models (glTF, USDZ, FBX, OBJ) rotate and pan. SVG, Lottie, fonts, Markdown, CSV and JSON preview too.
Editing
Code gets Xcode’s colours, line numbers and a status bar. Word, RTF and plain text open ready to type in.
Known issues
Cedar edits Word files with macOS’s own text engine, so comments, tracked changes and complex layouts can be lost when you save. In a bulleted list from Word, pressing Return starts a plain line instead of a new bullet.
